Introduction and Bio

The Austin Roping Club and grounds are located in a small peaceful valley just outside of Austin.
The Club was established in 1977 and is sponsored by Lander County.

Austin, the heart and true centre of Nevada, is located in the beautiful Toiyabe National Forest. On Highway 50 to the West is the Reese River Valley, and to the East, Smoky Valley, while running North and South are miles of stunning mountain ranges. A paradise of pictures and adventures for the person who loves the great outdoors!

With spectacular views, it is a must to stop by, rest a while then get up and enjoy the neighbourhood with or without a horse!

The generations of Nevadan families and new comers have similar loves, one is horses. The Austin Roping Club has had throughout the years many events bringing riders and ropers young and old from close communities to those beyond the Nevada borders.

Once again we are bringing the goals of the membership and local communities together for a new beginning! We may be a small group but that does not mean that we cannot grow and do great things. Our past and future events include family days, gymkhanas, horsemanship seminars and roping events. The events are for all to see and participate from the youngest “buckeroo” to the cowboy with “experiences of a life time”.

Come be a part of what we are, give us your input, become a member and make it Your club no matter where you live.

As you drive from the West on Highway 50 heading East rising up to 6500+ ft, past the old cemetery you will see the Austin Roping Club Sign. From the East as you are leaving Austin, heading West just past the Smoky the Bear sign on your right, look on your left for the Austin Roping Club sign and either way follow the arrows. Coming from Battle Mountain before you enter on to Highway 50, you will see the ARC sign directly across the highway.

The club grounds has so much to offer. In a small canyon, hills and trees abound. As you come down the hill you will see the Shooting Range on your left and on your right the camping areas with large trees for shade and in the spring and fall a stream for all to enjoy.

In the centre is a large panelled and fenced arena with chutes, small corrals, including water and feed troughs. This is for those passing through or for those training their horses day or night. The lights provide an opportunity to work your horses in the cool after a hot summer day. Barrels, poles, small jump set ups and the size of the arena give you lots of options for training, exercising and having fun. Spectator bleachers and Announcement stand for both events and seminars of all types adds to making this a good choice to come and visit.

On our events days we have a concession stand for those with a good appetite of BBQ, home cooked meals and snacks. A great place to be a part of!

Under the trees are the separate rest areas, with water spigots and fire pits; bath and shower facilities a short walk away open in the spring and summer months. Park and camp with or without horses, rest a while on your journey. Tether your horse(s) in your site or use one of the small paneled corrals we provide for those passing through. We have a few corrals for rent if you plan to stay for a while and also for the locals we rent by the year. One can use the large arena also to warm up your horse before you ride in any direction through the wonders of our hills. You can even follow the Pony Express trail where you can be part of the history.

And last but not least we have our night watch-woman who keeps a close eye on all that goes on letting us know if there are any signs of danger! What more could one ask for, on site security!

We provide a donation box in gratitude for using our facilities. This is greatly appreciated.

Lander County sponsors this non-profit club which requires all to comply with the charter, rules, by laws including the NRS statutes. Our meetings which are open to public are held in the Austin Fire Station the First Tuesday of each month at 6:30pm. Please Come!

Sign up (soon) for the future e-mail and mailing list to let people know about our events and those in the close communities. Send any information that would help the club and its future; all ideas, projects, notices of other events are welcome. These will be presented at the following meetings.
